Benue State Government has announced it will close down all schools in the state on March 27, 2020.
Commissioner of Education, Prof. Dennis Ityavyar disclosed this on Thursday while speaking to Journalists on phone.
The Commissioner said the issue of Coronavirus is a serious case that needs urgent action and hence government’s decision to close all schools.
Ityavyar said: “Coronavirus is a serious pandemic. We are not supposed to treat it with kids gloves. In order to prevent any unfortunate incident, the state Executive Council has decided to close all foundation, secondary and tertiary institutions from 27th of this month.”
He also said the notice covers all schools in the state; both government and private schools.

The Commissioner urged all schools who still have exams to hurry up with it and ensure that pupils and students are on holiday from the 27th March till further.
Asked if government is considering closing churches and mosques, Ityavyar said the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism will soon issue a statement on that.
Recall that some weeks back, Benue State Government had approved the sum of N10 million for the purchase of safety kits.
Government had also earmarked a quarantine centre in Makurdi in case there is an outbreak or a suspected case, for testing and isolation of the victims.
Ityavyar said government is not resting on its oars but taking proactive measures to ensure that the Benue people are protected.
