The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, has advised lawyers newly called to the bar to make the pursuit of justice of their priority.
Tanko gave the advice at the call-to-bar ceremony held at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja, on Tuesday.
He also charged the new lawyers to be steadfast and preserve the honour and dignity of the legal profession.
The new wigs numbering 5,689 are those who passed the August 2019 Bar final examinations.
According to the CJN, the new lawyers must do all they can within the ambit of the law to ensure that justice is always served.
“You must be steadfast and preserve the honour and dignity of the profession.

“Your priority is to commit yourselves to the pursuit for justice. Where you see justice is not being achieved, do all you can within the ambit of the law to ensure that justice is served,” he said.
The CJN stressed the need for the new lawyers to leave good footprints on the sands of time and urged them to be courageous and bold enough to break new grounds and seek advice from experienced senior counsel.
The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Hayatu Chiroma (SAN), in his remarks disclosed that the school had witnessed astronomical growth in its 56 years of uninterrupted existence.
He however, solicited for intervention and financial assistance for the institution.
Chiroma called on the legal community, corporate organisations, government, parents, guardians as well as public-spirited individuals to assist the institution in form of donations, foundations, scholarships and grants.
