COMMISSIONER’s TEAM WINS 2017 SWAN FOOTBALL COMPETITION

Information Rangers, a “newly” formed football team of the Ministry of Information and Strategy in Akwa Ibom state, yesterday trashed Inspiration FM 2-1 to win this year’s SWAN Football Trophy.

The exciting and enthralling match was witnessed by a large crowd of spectators who thronged the NUJ Mini Sports Stadium on Information drive, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh, who led his team to victory via spot kicks played in the first Eleven of the Information Rangers football team.

Mr. Udoh, himself a retired professional footballer, showed flashes of his old self putting pressure on the Inspiration FM team, in a match that ended goalless after regulation time.

The trophy was presented to the Ministry of Information Team by the sponsor and Chairman of Akwa United Football Club and Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Sports, Mr. Paul ‘Sports’ Bassey.

Charles Udoh who also performed the kick-off, expressed appreciation to Governor Udom Emmanuel for supporting the sports writers to host their week-long event, which ended with the finals of the football tournament.

He added that the Governor’s investment in sports has paid off as Akwa Ibom State has become the Sports capital for Nigeria.

The Information Boss thanked all the teams, which participated in the tournament for the mature and friendly manner they exhibited throughout the period and charged them to always maintain the spirit of sportsmanship in all human endeavours.

The well-attended tournament witnessed the presentation of medals and cash prizes to winners in respective sports.

Among those present at the occasion were the Chairman of the State NUJ, Mr. Patrick Albert, Media Aide to the Governor, Essien Ndueso, who was one of the commentators, the Director of Information, Comfort Umanah and the acting Director of Strategy, Mrs. Grace Akpan.
