The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, in Ekiti State, Olawale Fapohunda and 11 aides of Governor Kayode Fayemi have tested positive for the Coronavirus disease.
Those affected include some of the state executive council (exco) members, domestic staff and Fayemi’s security aides.
The discovery followed a directive from the governor that his aides and appointees should go for COVID-19 test to ascertain their status.
Recall that Fayemi last Wednesday disclosed that his third COVID-19 test had turned out positive and that he had gone into self-isolation as part of measures to curb spread of the disease.
The Nation, quoting one of the aides to the governor, who spoke under anonymity, said that those who have tested positive were already in isolation. He added that some other aides are awaiting the results of their samples.
Fapohunda had earlier announced through his twitter handle @AGWaleFapohunda that his test returned positive.

His tweet read: “The result of my second COVID-19 test came out positive today. In line with the established protocols, I have commenced a period of self-isolation. In my absence, all state legal matters should be referred to the Solicitor-General.”
Confirming the development, Health Commissioner Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade said the Attorney General and some members of the exco have been infected with the coronavirus.
Dr. Yaya-Kolade, who refused to name the affected aides, said it was against the ethics of the profession to disclose the identities of COVID-19 patients.
Giving updates on Fayemi’s health status, she said he was doing fine and in good spirit, calling on the people to adhere to laid down guidelines and protocols towards stopping the further spread of COVID-19.
