President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Abuja on Wednesday for a three-day state visit to South Africa.
The visit is on the invitation of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The visit which is to discuss the welfare of Nigerians in South Africa comes several weeks after xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other foreigners in that country and the evacuation of hundreds of Nigerians from the country.
A statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Tuesday, said Buhari would hold a town hall meeting with Nigerians living in South Africa to share in their experiences.
Shehu said further: “President Buhari and his host will preside over the South Africa/Nigeria Bi-National Commission, during which a progress report will be presented.
“At the end of the meeting, both leaders will sign a joint communique.
“The President and his delegation including Nigerian business representatives will also participate at a South Africa-Nigeria Business Forum with their host counterparts.’’
To accompany the President on the trip are; Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau State and Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi.
Others are: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd); Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman; Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; Minister of Mines and Steel Development and Mr. Olamilekan Adegbite.
The rest are; Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi; Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Mariam Katagum; National Security Adviser, Rtd. Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno, Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Mr. Ahmed Abubakar and Chairman/CEO Nigeria Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
The Presidential is expected return to Abuja on Friday.
