Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, has announced a new date for the conduct of Election into the 23 Local Government Area Councils of the state.

The State Chairman, Mr. Tersoo Loko, who gave the announcement on Monday while speaking to Journalists in his office, in Makurdi, said the shift became necessary to avoid a clash with Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC), time table.
He said the election is now scheduled to hold on the 30th of April, 2022, instead of 7th May, 2022 as earlier scheduled.
According to the chairman, the new date is in line with section 95 of Benue State Electoral (Amendment) Law 2012 which gave the Commission the power to abridge its time – table.
Mr Loko who expressed regret over the inconvenience the changes may cause urged stakeholders and political parties to take note.
He however highlighted that by the new date, the submission of names of polling agents by political parties is now Monday the 25th of April, 2022, from 9.00am to 4:00pm.
“Termination of campaign 28th April, 2022 by 12 midnight while, Election, declaration of Results, Saturday 30th April, 2022, publication of results, Tuesday 3, May, 2022, re- run of Election (if any) Thursday 5th May, 2022 and issuance of certificate, Friday 6th Ma, 2022.”
Loko disclosed that only three political parties have, so far, indicated interest to participate in the election, including APGA, PDP and Labour party while the APC had earlier announced that it would not participate in the LG elections.
