Armed thugs are currently on the rampage at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Complex in Uyo, the state capital.

Our correspondent learnt trouble started shortly after the house hurriedly convened early in the morning and declared the seats of five members vacant.

The lawmakers, whose seats were declared vacant are said to come from Itu, Etim Ekpo/Ika, Ikono, Mkpat Enin and Essien Udum state constituencies.

The affected lawmakers had earlier defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Apart from declaring the seats of their colleagues vacant, the house also passed a motion urging the state Governor, Udom Emmanuel, to name either the state university or the international airport after a former Governor of the state, Victor Attah.
