Boko Haram insurgents in a night raid, Wednesday, killed two villagers and stole livestock in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

NEXT EDITION learnt the insurgents arrived Wanu village in Gulak, the headquarters of the local government area at about 9.30pm when some residents were already in bed.

For about five hours, the insurgents were said to have unleashed terror on the villagers while also stealing food and livestock.

All through the attack, it was learnt that security agencies failed to act on distress calls made by the villagers.

Speaking on the incident, the local government Chairman, Mohammed Yusufu, confirmed that Wanu village came under attack during the night.

Mr. Yusufu said the insurgents burnt down many houses in the village, killed two persons and injured many more.

The local government boss also noted that livestock and foodstuff were carted away by the insurgents.

He called on the Federal Government to urgently deploy troops to the area and neighbouring communities to forestall the recurrence of attacks.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Othman Abubakar, told this newspaper the command was yet to receive a security report from the divisional police officer from the area.

“We have not received any security report on the incident. If it has happened, I believe the DPO will send us a report. But if that does not come on time, I will try to find out myself,” Mr. Abubakar said on the telephone.

Boko Haram had captured Madagali Local Government Area sometime in 2014 and chased the residents away until the Nigerian Military liberated the town in February 2015.

However, the insurgents have consistently attacked the area which is located close to Sambisa forest, which was a former stronghold of the group.

Last week, a teenager suspected to be a member of the groups blew himself up inside a Mosque in Mubi, killing over 60 worshippers.

The Inspector General of Police, Idris Abubakar, had promised increased security in the state, during a visit last week.
