Late Brigadier General Omo Braimo, Captain Ismail and other military personnel killed in the line of duty have been buried with full military honours in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The solemn ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery, where top government officials, senior military officers, grieving families and colleagues gathered to pay final respects to the fallen troops.
Among dignitaries present were Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, Minister of Defence Gen. Christopher Musa (retd), Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, and Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume.
During the ceremony, tributes were paid to the deceased officers and soldiers, who were described as brave patriots committed to defending the nation.
They “stood firm in the face of danger and made the ultimate sacrifice so that others might live in safety,” dignitaries said, adding that their courage would continue to inspire future generations.
The burial featured full military rites, including ceremonial processions, gun salutes and the presentation of national flags to the families of the deceased.
Emotions ran high as relatives watched the final honours accorded to their loved ones, underscoring the human cost of Nigeria’s ongoing fight against insecurity.
Prayers were also offered for the repose of their souls, while official citations detailing their service records and sacrifice were read before their next of kin.
According to a statement on the Nigerian Army’s verified Facebook page, the burial reflected national gratitude to members of the Armed Forces.
“Their sacrifice serves as a poignant reminder of the heavy price paid daily by members of the Armed Forces to safeguard the peace, unity and security of Nigeria,” the statement said.
The event also drew attention to the continued risks faced by troops deployed in conflict-affected areas, particularly in the North-East.
