Betty Bumpers popularly known for her efforts in promoting childhood immunization and world peace has died at the age of 93.
According to her son Brent Bumpers, Betty died on Friday November 23, at her home in Little Rock due to complications from dementia and a broken hip.
Betty was the wife of a former Arkansas Governor and four-term United States senator, Dale Bumpers who died on New Year’s Day 2016 at the age of 90.
Mrs. Betty Bumpers worked as an elementary school teacher and a volunteer in church and civic activities prior to her husband becoming a governor in 1971.
During the campaign, Betty was shocked when she found out that childhood immunisation rates in Arkansas were among the lowest in the country. She took this course as her primary concern during her time in the office as the first lady.

She later worked with first lady Rosalynn Carter on a national childhood immunisation program in the late 1970s, and later with Hillary Clinton, a former Arkansas first lady who became the first lady of the United States after the 1992 presidential victory of her husband, Bill Clinton.
Mrs. Bumpers and Rosalynn Carter started a non profit organisation which was known as “Every Child By Two” But currently referred to as “Vaccinate Your Family,” to continue education efforts to reduce vaccine-preventable illnesses.
