Bayern Munich’s new reserve goalkeeper, Daniel Peretz, on Monday said he would not settle for a spot on the bench, while the future of full back Benjamin Pavard continues to hang in the balance.
Peretz, 23, has been brought in on the cheap from Maccabi Tel Aviv as a deputy to Sven Ulreich, while Manuel Neuer recovers from a broken leg.
He will be coached to be a future number two to Neuer, with Ulreich reaching the end of his career, but the Israeli is aiming big.
“I’m excited by the challenge. Of course I want to play, I want to show what I can do.
“I have been a Bayern fan since I was a kid. Manuel is my idol. I met him yesterday. He is very down to Earth and a nice guy,” he said at his unveiling on Monday.
Bayern let Neuer’s initial replacement Yann Sommer leave for Inter Milan while Alexander Nübel was loaned to Stuttgart.
Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen added: “Daniel has a lot of potential. I am sure we can plan with Daniel looking into the future.”
Dreesen also discussed the future of France’s Pavard, who wants to leave to play centre back and has also been linked in the media with Inter. He again sat out Sunday’s 3-1 win over Augsburg.
“We have a few days. I am clear that we can sort out this issue in this window,” Dreesen said, with the transfer deadline approaching on Friday.
Assuming he means to sell Pavard, Bayern have been linked with Chelsea’s Trevor Chalobah and Leipzig’s Lukas Klostermann as they look for someone to play right back and cover for centre back.
Konrad Laimer came on at right back as a substitute for Noussair Mazraoui against Augsburg when he was signed as a midfielder. Coach Thomas Tuchel has indicated he would also like another central midfielder. (dpa/NAN)
