he Federal Government has postponed the negotiation meeting with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, earlier scheduled for December 9.
The postponement was announced by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, on Wednesday.
No reason was given for the postponement by the ministry and no new date was announced.
A statement by Charles Akpan, Deputy Director in the Ministry which announced the postponement read: “The Meeting between ASUU and the Federal Government earlier scheduled for today (Wednesday) by 3pm has been postponed. Thank you for your understanding.”

Recall that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige had on Tuesday claimed that ASUU agreed to call off the nine months strike on or before Dec. 9.
He said: “The truth of the matter is that a ‘gentleman agreement’ was reached at the last meeting in which ASUU agreed to call off the strike before December 9, 2020, and the minister, in turn, agreed that once the strike is called off, he would get a presidential waiver for ASUU to be paid the remainder of their salaries on or before December 9.”
He said government had delivered on its agreement with ASUU.
However, ASUU through its Chairmsn, Prof. Abiodun Ogunyemi said lecturers would not return to the classroom if their outstanding salary arrears were not paid.
