An Ojo Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced 41-year-old man, Kola Idowu, to one month imprisonment for unlawful possession of illegal substance.

Magistrate A. Adesanya summarily tried and sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Following his plea of guilt and plea for the court’s mercy, the magistrate sentenced the convict to one month imprisonment being a first time offender.

Adesanya held that the sentence should be calculated from the date of the convict’s arrest.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mr Simon Uche, who reviewed the facts of the case before the magistrate, tendered the convict’s confessional statement as exhibit which the court admitted in evidence.

Uche told the court that the convict was arrested at Swiss Park in Trade Fair Complex on Aug. 17, saying that the 207 wraps of “weeds” were found in his possession and offered no reasonable explanation as to how he came about them.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 329 (b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
