Former Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed optimism that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would win the forthcoming elections convincingly in Akwa Ibom State.

Senator Akpabio made this known while addressing thousands of his supporters at the solemn assembly to flag-off his senatorial election campaign and inauguration of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District APC Campaign Council at Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government on Friday.

He said Akwa Ibom people were very appreciative of the effort of President Muhammadu Buhari in infrastructural development of the State and the various appointments the APC administration has offered Akwa Ibom sons and daughters.

He said the state would reciprocate the kind gesture by voting massively for the President and All candidates of the APC.

Senator Akpabio berated his successor, Governor Udom Emmanuel for non-performance and said it was sad that after almost four years the Governor could not have any project to his name that he initiated and completed.

He said he was shocked that Governor Emmanuel whom he brought from Lagos to become Governor despite the fact that he was not a member of the party on whose platform he stood election and become Governor, could have the temerity to call a world press conference to insult him.

Taking a swipe at Governor Emmanuel over what he perceived as his hypocritical campaign slogan tagged “only God” Senator Akpabio said God cannot be mocked.

Going sarcastic Senator Akpabio said
“Only God could have made it possible to make someone who was never a party member to become a governor. Only God could have made somebody who has never had a party card or know what is called ward to become a governor.

“Only God could have made someone who could not have stood election on his own even as a Councillor and win to be brought from somewhere and made Governor. Only God could have made a man who has never helped anyone to become anything to become governor,”Senator Akpabio quipped.

Akpabio, however, urged the people not to bother about the insults on him but should rather respond through the ballot by sending the PDP packing in 2019.

He said Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District remained a hot bed for APC and as such the people should ensure they vote overwhelmingly for the party.

He disclosed that the Vice President would soon visit the state to launch the trader moni where market women would benefit from the scheme with cash grants by the federal government.

He also used the occasion to inaugurate his Campaign Council. The Campaign Council is headed by Dr. Chris Akpan and deputized by Sen. Aloysius Etok. He tasked them to go and shine and bring victory to APC.

In his acceptance speech, the Deputy Chairman of the Campaign Council, Sen. Aloysius Etok, thanked the party for entrusting them with the responsibility.

He tasked members of the party to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them.
