The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) jets have destroyed settlements belonging to Boko Haram factional leader, Abu Musad Albarnawi.
According to PRNigeria, NAF has intensified operations in the North-east and particularly in Tumbun Rago, a settlement at the Northern fringes of Borno State bordering Lake Chad.
It said during a routine Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission on December 20, a NAF team sighted the insurgents in the camp.
Accordingly, fighter aircrafts and helicopters were detailed for bombardments of the location on December 21.
Quoting NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Olatokunbo Adesanya, the PR agency said fighter aircrafts took turns to bomb the location.
“Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) of the attacks revealed that the targeted Boko Haram structures were destroyed, causing a fire within the location and neutralizing scores of insurgents in the process,” Mr. Adesanya, an Air Vice Marshal said.

“Thereafter, the recently acquired helicopter gunships carried out mop-up attacks on a few fleeing insurgents.”
Again on December 22, he said the Air Force neutralised a large gathering of insurgents Southeast of Bogumeri, also in Borno State, after their convoy of motorcycles was trailed to the location.
Mr. Olatokunbo said the intensification of air operations is aimed at further reducing the will-power of the insurgents to continue their nefarious activities while also creating the needed advantage for surface forces to effectively operate.
Over one year after the Nigerian military and the Presidency declared Boko Haram was technically defeated; the group is still waging war against troops on many flanks.
The group has killed over 300 persons including security operatives and civilians, while also deploying scores of suicide bombers to public places.
