A “miracle baby” who survived open-heart surgery has tested positive for coronavirus.
The baby is now fighting for her life again after contracting COVID-19 in a U.K. hospital, the New York Post reported.
Erin Bates weighed only 5 lbs., 4 oz. after her birth in October. Doctors told Erin’s family she was given a “good chance of recovery.” The baby underwent a major surgery for a heart defect she was diagnosed with.
After Erin’s harrowing health struggles, family members recently confirmed the 6-month-old was diagnosed with coronavirus. On social media, the family posted heartbreaking photos of Erin hooked up to a ventilator in a hospital in Liverpool.
Emma Bates, the mother, said the family is “absolutely heartbroken,” afraid that they may lose their bundle of joy to yet another serious diagnosis.

“Please please please keep Erin in your prayers, we can’t lose her over this virus she has battled through too much,” she said.
Bates shared that her daughter was born after ten years of attempts by her and her husband to successfully conceive a new child. The mother said that she needs Erin and the baby completes the family.
Emma has been by her daughter’s side in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. She is not allowed to leave due to isolation restrictions within the hospital.
“If I show any symptoms, I will then be taken to another hospital, and Erin will be here alone,” she said.
The mother shared in another post that her baby has already had “open-heart surgery, congenital heart disease, collapsed lungs, failed kidneys, RSV, tracheomalacia, bronchomalacia.”
