The Kaduna State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna town and its environs.
The curfew is with immediate effect.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, via his Facebook page.
A senior security officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the situation is bad, “but we are trying to put it under control.”
The curfew came as tension rose in Kaduna over Thursday’s crisis in Kasuwan Magani.
Sources say that tension erupted around Sabon Tasha, spilled over to Tudun Wada area and spilled to the Central Market and Ahmadu Bello Way in the centre of the city.
“They have started pursuing people in Tudun Wada where I went to see someone now; we are running for our lives now!” Ibrahim Yauri, a dentist caught in the pandemonium, told our reporter on phone.
Irate youths had started burning tyres along Nnamdi Azikiwe Way, Ahmadu Bello Way and some other parts of the metropolis.
A trader was run over by a car in the pandemonium in Barnawa area.

“A car ran over and crushed my relation, a trader, Ibrahim Dantakara, in the pandemonium at Barnawa. We are trying to get the police to help use evacuate him to the hospital,” Musa Koko, a resident of Kurmin Mashi, said.
Police and the military have, however, taken to the streets to douse the tension.
The Commissioner of Police Abdulrahman and the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yakubu Sabo, are not responding to calls and text messages sent to their numbers.
