Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to show love, commitment and focus in order to make the party succeed in its campaigns ahead of the 2019 general election.

Okowa made the call on Thursday in Asaba when former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, and his team paid him a visit.

The visit was to intimate the governor with Lamido’s presidential ambition.

Okowa said unity and commitment remained essential tools that must be employed by the party to achieve success in future elections.

“Our collective strength will move the party forward to victory,” he said.

The governor said he was happy that the PDP had started rediscovering itself after its successful convention held last year.

His words:  “I am happy that our party is rediscovering itself after our successful convention in which the leaders were able to come out as one united family, committed to the future of the nation and the party.  Our party is founded on love and commitment; we need to stay focused and sit down and take decisions as a party…

“We must start a relationship among our leaders to enable us talk about issues of our party and the nation and reassure Nigerians that we are truly prepared to lead this nation and take it to greater heights.”

He said it was necessary for the different organs of the party to give the necessary support to make it succeed.

Okowa described Lamido as a committed and consistent party man, emphasising that only a presidential candidate that emerged from the party structure would be able to lead the party forward and wrest power from the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2019.

Speaking earlier, Lamido informed Governor Okowa about his 2019 presidential ambition, stating that he was vying for the seat because the nation deserved to grow and develop.

He added that he possessed the ability to take the nation out of the present hardship in the country.

Lamido promised to work with other aspirants and leaders to ensure that unity and focus remained the hallmark of the party, especially in view of its preparation to tackle issues of transforming the nation.
