Popular musician, Adewale Ayuba, on Friday, advised Nigerian youth to avoid being used as political thugs in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

Ayuba gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

According to him, the youth have been vulnerable to such act over the years due to the economic state of the nation.

He said that youths should think more of being responsible citizens and embrace available skills capable of rendering them self-reliant, rather than wait to be hired by politicians to perpetrate some atrocities during elections.

The Fuji musician said that youths who engage in such derogatory act demean themselves, forgetting that they could be governors, senators or hold other such offices in future.

“When we engage in election manipulation, aside the fact that we tarnish our integrity, it is a sin against the country and Almighty God.

“We should all remember that we can also aspire to hold such positions, rather than being political thugs and instruments of confusion.
“We must all guard our integrity and be responsible citizens so as to have a sane and peaceful election,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the Presidential and National Assembly elections for Feb. 16, 2019, while the Governorship and State Assembly/Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council elections have been scheduled for March 2, 2019.

According to the timetable, campaign for the Presidential and National Assembly elections will start on Nov. 18, while the campaign for the governorship will begin on Dec. 1.
