The court which found the accused persons guilty of kidnapping, stealing, illegal possession of firearms and conspiracy was headed by Justice Adedotun Onibonokuta

The judge said held that the prosecution, led by the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, Dr Ajibola Basiru proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The men were found guilty of kidnapping one businessman and petrol marketer, Alhaji Tajudeen Popoola at gun point in Moore, Ile Ife.

The kidnappers were said to have refused to release Popoola after collecting N10 million ransom.

But fortunately, Popoola escaped and reported the case to the police who effected the arrest.

Justice Onibonokuta held that the defence of alibi raised by the accused was made out.

He also found that Popoola’s evidence was well corroborated by the evidence of his brother who delivered the ransom to the kidnappers.

Consequently, the two kidnapers are to serve seven years in prison for conspiracy, 10 years for kidnapping, seven years for stealing and 10 years for illegal possession of firearms.
