The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru, on Friday expressed concern over the implication of the planned strike by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
He therefore appealed to the union to reconsider the 15-day ultimatum it issued the Federal Government.
In a statement issued in Abuja by NNPC spokesman, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, Baru said the union’s action would affect products supply and distribution chain in the country.
He said in view of the escalation it would bring to the fuel crisis in the country, the union should exercise patience to enable government attend to the issues it had raised.

It would be recalled that in a statement issued on January 30, NUPENG gave government a 15-day ultimatum over six labour issues between some of its members and their respective companies.
In a similar development, Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of NUPENG has assured the NNPC that it had no plan to embark on any strike action.
In the statement signed by its Chairman, Oladiti Salman, the PTD said the claim that it issued ultimatum to government over the state of some roads in the country was untrue.
