Less than a week after Real Madrid won the UEFA champions league title, the manager, Zinedine Zidane, announces his decision to step down from his role in the club.
Zidane declared his decision to quit at a press conference today in the Spanish capital in the company of the club’s President Florentino Perez who said that the decision was unexpected.
“I have taken the decision not to continue with the club next season.
“This is the right moment for everyone, it might seem a bit strange, but it had to be done for the good of everyone, the players, the club, and myself. This team must keep winning, and it needs a change after three years, another voice, and another method of working.”
He said that Real Madrid had been the club of his dream and playing for it had been the best thing that had ever happened to him.
He said having the chance to manage the club after being a legend of the club was something he would always cherish for the rest of his life.
He thanked the president of the club for the change given to him to play for the club and the confidence bestowed on him to even become the manager.

He said that everything that has a beginning must surely have an end and that was why he had taken the decision to step aside.
Zidane took over Real Madrid after the sacking of Rafa Benitez in January 2016 and won three successive Champions League titles, as well as the Liga title in 2016-17 season.
The Frenchman also led Madrid to a successive European Super Cups and Club World Cups in 2016 and 2017.
