Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has put together a man-hunt made up of combined mobile and police detectives to track down those behind the Ukanafun killings at the weekend.

Gunmen suspected to be members of a cult group at the weekend unleash mayhem in the restive local government, killing a popular youth leader, and a lawyer in the council.

The youth leader, simply identified as Paragi, from Nkek Village was killed on Saturday, at a barbing Salon in his village, while the lawyer who hailed from Idung Nneke Village was murdered on Sunday.

But the police have given the assurance that they would not leave any stone unturned to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly acts.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Chukwu Ikechukwu, said a man-hunt had been ordered by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Donald Awunah, to ensure the arrest of the hoodlums.

“Right now reports reaching me from our men in the field have confirmed there is no arrest now, but I want to assure the good people of Akwa Ibom and Ukanafun local government area that the police is after the criminals behind the killings at the weekend.

“The state Commissioner of Police, C.P Donald Awunah has detailed a special team of detectives to ensure the arrest of the hoodlums and that in no distance time normalcy would return to the local government.”

The Ukanafun local government area of Akwa Ibom State has been in the news, albeit, negatively in the last couple of months, following youth restiveness in the area resulting in killings by cult groups in the area.

Recently, the Secretary of the Transition Management Committee, Ime Willie Atakpa was murdered in a premeditated assassination plot in his poultry farm on Easter Sunday.

The proprietor of Sure Polytechnic, Dr. Idongesit Udom, who incidentally hailed from the local government was kidnapped among other series of high profile crimes.
