Twenty-seven year old phone repairer, Augustine Ikhimiukur, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for stealing a customer’s phone.
The phone is valued at N24, 000.
The accused, resident at Abati George Avenue, Lawanson in Surulere area of Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of stealing contrary to Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 24, about 11:00 a.m. at Ojota Bus Stop.
He alleged that the complainant, Mr. Julius Oderanti, a teacher, reported the matter at the Ogudu Police Station on July 24.
According to him, “He (Oderanti) said he gave his Itel 1556 phone to the accused valued at N24, 000 for repairs.
“He added that while the accused charged him N4, 500, he made part payment of N3, 000 with a promise to pay the balance when he wants to collects the phone.’’
The prosecutor told the court that since then the accused allegedly disappeared to an unknown destination.

“On Sept. 20, the complainant came across him at a different location and demanded for his phone and money but the phone was nowhere to be found,” he said.
The Magistrate, E. Kubeinje, granted the accused bail in the sum of N30, 000 after he denied committing the offence.
Kubeinjie, who ordered the accused to produce two sureties in like sum, said the sureties must have sustainable means of livelihood.
Kubeinje also ordered the sureties to produce a tax clearance for the court registrar’s verification as part of the bail conditions and adjourned the matter to Nov. 7 for further hearing.
