Labour party presidential candidate Peter Obi has visited Benue state to condole with victims of flood and Internally Displaced Persons in the state.
Obi was in Makurdi on Thursday, where he visited Daudu IDP camp in Guma local government area and victims of flood at rice mill in Wadata area of Makurdi.
He noted that Benue should not be suffering from flood disaster saying the state already has huge humanitarian crisis.
“The flood is not an accident. It was meant to happen. It was something the federal government could have controlled but they failed to do something. So I have come to identify with the victims in my own little way.”
Obi said he suspended his campaign to go round to sympathise with the people.
While lamenting that most victims are rural farmers, he said their present condition has given rise to food inflation in the country.

“This is a huge loss on Nigeria. These are people who would have been back to the farms, who would have been producing the food that we eat today but because of that, we have food inflation.
He stated that if he is given the opportunity of serving as president such situations will never occur in the country. “If I become president, I will bring a permanent solution to the problem.”
Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Professor Anthony Ijoho, SAN, appreciated Mr. Peter Obi for visiting and identifying with the people saying he was the only presidential candidate that has come to visit the Benue people.
The SSG who said his visit shows he has the interest of the people at heart and prayed God to grant his heart desires.
One of the flood victims, Polycarp Bogo, counted his loses adding that he has lost his house and other property.
He thanked the state government who he said has aided them with food reliefs and thanked Peter Obi for identifying with them in their plight
