Parents have been urged to ensure strict monitoring of the use of handsets by their wards so as to enable them concentrate on their academics.
Speaking at a one day forum organised recently by King Emmanuel Progressive College, Ayobo, Lagos, Proprietor of the School, Dr. Anthony Baiyewu said the advent of Information Technology (IT) including handsets is gradually eroding the standard of education.
He added that if the use of handsets by secondary school students was not controlled, it would negatively affect the academic life of the children.
He said some students spent most of their time going through information on the handsets that would not be of any good use to them instead of reading their books.
His words: ‘’The standard of education is negatively affected by Information Technology. The SMS language is fast eroding the standard of spoken and written English. There should be strict monitoring, if not a total ban on the use of handsets by students in secondary school.’’
