Mr. Ezekiel Daniel, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Delta State Governor on Security, has urged members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, and media practitioners in he country to continuously make objectivity their watch word.
Mr. Daniel who was at the NUJ State Secretariat at Asaba, where he donated a set of computer, urged media practitioners in the country to keep alive the ethos, guiding principle and everything that makes Fourth Estate of the Realm the watchdog of the society alive.
He maintained that the Nigerian media had the history of being at the forefront of groups that fought for the democracy being enjoyed presently by citizens, leading to people like Dele Giwa and several others paying the supreme price.
Daniel recalled that at some point in the nation’s history, several media houses were shut down in the epic succession battles by the military junta, while journalists were also clamped into detention.
“In all these tribulation and trials, the media remained unshaken, leading to victory songs among Nigerians at the return of democracy. This same fighting spirit is what l urge the media to keep alive and never depart from objectivity, which is the hallmark of journalism practice,” he stressed.

He recalled that he was at the NUJ secretariat three months ago to seek media support for the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration, especially on the need to keep the state peaceful, safe and secure for Delta people.
Daniel recalled that during the visit, the union sought his assistance in equipping the secretariat with a set of computer, hence his latest visit to fulfil his promise, while urging the journalists to continue to support the Okowa administration in the realisation of its vision for Delta people.
Responding, Michael Ikeogwu , NUJ Delta State Council chairman, who was visible touched, stressed that since he took over the affairs of the union, Daniel’s gesture was the first time a political appointee would shower the union with such gift.
He prayed that Daniel’s vision for Delta youths would come to fruition, even as he called on the Almighty to elevate him to higher positions for the betterment of the people of the state.
Ikeogwu maintained that Daniel’s performance since he became Okowa’s SSA on security matters four months ago had been outstanding, especially as he had been visible in every part of the state, building bridges among the people to ensure that peace and security prevail.
The NUJ chief said he was confident that Daniel would do even better if given higher responsibilities, stressing that the activist cum politician had continued to dazzle the people of the state by his record of achievements so far in Okowa’s government.
