The Senate has resumed plenary after the incident that saw the snatching away of its mace, the symbol of authority, by some suspected thugs led by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of Delta State.
The Senate went into an Executive Session over the matter and later resumed sitting with the mace in place.
The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, is presiding over the plenary.
Meanwhile, the Senate has vowed that it would get to the root of the matter of the snatching of the mace.
It described it as a sad assault on democracy and an obvious act of treason.
In a statement by the spokesman of the Senate, Sen. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, the thugs were said to have attacked some members of staff of the National Assembly, particularly the Sergeant-at-Arms on Chamber duties.

The Senate said it had already mandated the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Idris Kpotum Ibrahim and Director General of the State Security Services (SSS), Mallam Lawan Daura, to retrieve the mace stolen by the hoodlums within 24 hours.
The Senate said it would not be prevented from carrying out its duties.
“We are determined to conclude all matters slated on the Order Paper for today, even if it means us sitting until 6 p.m.,” Ekweremadu said.
Some members of the House of Representatives, led by Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun have visited the Senate to show solidarity.
