Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has sued for closer synergy between his administration and National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in order to sustain the fight against insecurity in the state.
Governor Ortom stated this on Wednesday while declaring open the 9th quadrennial state delegate conference of NURTW held at J. S Tarka foundation in Makurdi.
The governor who lamented the setbacks caused by activities of criminal herdersmen in the state noted that security is the responsibility of all and as such, drivers should provide useful information on suspicious movements to security agencies for adequate action.
Ortom also acknowledged the pecuilar role of drivers in the society and advised the union to prevail on their members to avoid over speeding, over loading, drunk driving and other unwholesome practices especially in this EMBER months.
Governor Ortom assured NURTW that the executive bill before the state assembly on provision for road traffic and vehicle inspection 2019, shall accommodate their inputs and address diverse challenges facing the union and road users in the state when passed into law.

He said as a proud member and national patron of the union, he commends them for choosing their new state exco members through consensus agreement and charged the new representatives to be focused as leadership comes with a lot of challenges and criticisms
In their seperate remarks, the representative of the Benue State Police Commissioner, ASP Timothy Ayaba and Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps, Aliyu Baba, all acknowledged the cordial relationship existing between them and the union saying it has reduced road crashes.
Benue state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Godwin Anya used the occasion to remind the Governor to avail NLC Benue state branch the
opportunity and avenue to discuss the implementation of the approved new national minimum wage for the benefit of Benue workers.
Earlier, state chairman of NURTW, Jerome Ukor outlined the union’s achievements and challenges in the state and thanked Governor Ortom for his contributions towards the growth of NURTW in the state.
He pledged to continue to offer best services to Nigerians in the state just as he said the union will collaborate with government in every area possible.
