The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, said it has recovered three ambulances and a 500KVA transformer meant for constituency projects for Ogun East Senatorial District from Senator Buruji Kashamu.
A statement from the commission’s spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa, on Thursday said that the items were part of the 2016 constituency projects which were to be distributed to Ogun East Senatorial District in Ogun State.
According to her, the items were discovered at the senator’s Constituency project office in Ijebu-Ode following intelligence from a concerned citizen who knew of the commission’s Constituency Project Tracking Group initiative.
The statement read in part: “They were discovered at his constituency project office in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. The three ambulances, which were procured at the cost of N6m each, were meant to be supplied to Obada Healthcare Centre, Oke Sopin in the Ijebu North Local Government Area; Community Health Centre, Itele in Ijebu East Local Government Area; and Community Health Centre, Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area.
“The transformer is the last of an initial 11 meant for distribution to various communities of Ogun East Senatorial District which were procured at the cost of N3.6m each, bringing the total for the entire eleven transformers to N39.5m.”
Okoduwa said the commission had covered 12 states so far in the execution of its Constituency Project Tracking Group initiative.
Meanwhile, Senator Kashamu has dismissed the claims by the ICPC as unfortunate, stating that he had filed a petition against his former senior legislative aide, Onadeko Onamusi, who the commission had already dragged before a court over the same items.
Reacting through his media aide, Austin Oniyokor, he said the matter was subjudice.
