Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has donated about N48 million to the 2128 Batch C Stream 1 Corpers as transport allowance from camp to their areas of primary assignment.

The governor, who made the announcement of the donation at the closing ceremony of the stream in Ikot Itie Udung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area on Monday, also extended the largess to the officials who trained the corpers at the camp.

He restated the State Government’s commitment to the welfare of corpers in the state.

The governor lauded the Corpers for their contributions towards the growth of education, health and infrastructure development of the state.

He also called on them to be mindful of their security and practice all the security lessons learnt in camp.

Emmanuel advised them also to respect the culture and tradition of their host communities for peace and harmony to reign.

The governor reiterated his directive that no Ministry, Department and Agency should reject corps members posted to them and tasked the corpers to continue from where their predecessors stopped and bring new ideas that will promote the socio-economic development of the state.

Governor Emmanuel noted that the camp needed a face lift, adding that the state government had directed NYSC Governing Board to sustain the initiative of the scheme.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Julius Amusan, reminded the corps members of the consequences of unauthorised journeys and urged them not to undertake such journeys.

“This is to guard against the dire consequences associated with such trips. You are advised to travel when it is absolutely necessary and not without the permission of the State Coordinator,” he said.

Amusan commended the governor for the goodwill of his government to corpers and the scheme in the state.
