Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, has welcomed the arrest of the policeman who shot and killed a driver on Friday on Kaduna-Abuja highway.
He assured that justice would be done.
Recall that an unidentified police officer allegedly killed a driver on the busy Expressway on Friday over N1000 bribe, forcing a six-hour lock down on the road by angry members of Tanker Drivers’ Union who demand for justice for their colleague.
A statement issued by Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna, on Saturday said the governor took part in clearing the gridlock that resulted from the aggrieved drivers protest and blockade of the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
The governor thanked travellers for their patience and perseverance even as he apologised for the distress suffered by stranded commuters due to the road blockage.
El-Rufai, however, condemned the action of the drivers saying that blocking the highway amounted to unlawfully inflicting distress on innocent citizens.
“The consequence of the blockage was so severe that it took several hours for the gridlock to clear, even after the barricades had been removed and the road opened,” he said.
He commended security agencies for their efforts in clearing the blockage and protecting travellers after the unfortunate incident.
Meanwhile, the governor, who once again commiserated with the family of the killed driver, reiterated that the “unfortunate incident must be thoroughly investigated so that justice could be done.”
He said that the state government was awaiting the result of the investigations into the incident.
