As the security situation in Nigeria continues to worsen, the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Umuahia Diocese, has warned against enlisting the so-called ‘repentant terrorists’ into the armed forces of Nigeria or the civil society.
The church, in a communiqué issued on Wednesday in Umuahia after its 3rd Session of the 9th Synod held in Umuahia, believed that as terrorists, the so-called ‘repentant’ ones would always unleash mayhem on the rest of Nigerians, having strongly held the view in the past.
The communiqué, signed by the Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, and Ven. Okwukwe Ucheagwu, the Synod Secretary, also urged the Federal Government to curtail the activities of herdsmen who destroy farmlands, abduct and attack innocent Nigerians

The church also asked the government to punish the offending herdsmen and compensate their victims, while calling for the restructuring of the naion’s security apparatus by immediate sack of the Service Chiefs.
According to the church, the Service Chiefs had outlived their usefulness, adding, “their best is not good enough.”
On the fate of Leah Sharibu, abducted by Boko Haram in February 2018, the church charged the government to expedite action towards her release, saying that Leah and other captives should not be allowed to stay a day longer in the terrorists’ den.
