Ruling on the matter, Monica Dongba-Mensen, president of the panel, said that the appeal by Iyamu lacked merit.

The judge said that the allegation that judges at the tribunal compromised their duties was not enough reason to annul his election.

The judge also disagreed with the claim that the PDP and its candidate were not given enough time to recount their votes.

Obaseki contested and won the governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

But Iyamu challenged the victory alleging malpractices.
