An International Consultant and Executive Director, Africa Centre for Corporate Responsibilities, Austin Onuoha has urged the Federal Government to scrap Nomadic Education Programme.
Mr. Onuoha suggested that government should rather strengthen the Universal Basic Education, UBE System as a full replacement for the nomadic system.
Onuoha stated this in Makurdi, while presenting a paper on policy options, entitled ”The Role of the Media in Farmer/Herder Conflicts” at a Conflict Sensitive Media Roundtable Dialogue organized by Search for Common Ground, a Netherlands funded Non-profit organization.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr. Onuoha argued that products of Nomadic Schools lack basic skills to compete in a knowledge driven era where graduates of traditional institutions have also fallen short of international standards.
Onuoha, who insisted that government must make it a duty to see that every child in Nigeria obtained quality education said, “We must scrap nomadic education and replace it with UBE because nomadic education is not working at all.
“Our children must go to school and they must acquire quality education like their counterparts elsewhere. This way, they will be able to compete among their equals.
