The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari instructed him to remove Senator Shehu Sani from the Senate through a recall process.
Sani represents Kaduna Central District of Kaduna State at the Senate.
His offences, the governor said, bordered on disloyalty and utter contempt against the All Progressives Congress and the president.
According to him, among other things, Sani worked against the approval of Kaduna’s application for $350m World Bank loan and described Buhari’s administration as a failure.
He said, however, in view of the exorbitant cost of a recall process, it was decided that he should be voted against during election.
The revelation is contained in a letter by el-Rufai to Buhari, dated October 2.
The letter reads: “When your excellency travelled to London in April 2018 for medical consultation, Shehu Sani ridiculed it on Facebook as ‘Voyage to London, Season 3.’
“In May 2018, he lamented what he said was Buhari’s three years of failure to protect human lives.
“In the same month, he wrote that ‘Baba should protect his testicle from any man who always bends down to greet him.’
“Your excellency will recall that earlier this year, you directed me to initiate processes to recall Shehu Sani from the Senate to punish his repeated acts of contempt and disloyalty.

“Following your directive, our team in Kaduna studied what was being done in Kogi state regarding the recall of Dino Melaye and drew up a budget. Upon examination of the costs and loopholes in the recall process as brutally exposed in Dino Melaye’s case, and in recognition of the immense of preparations for the next elections, it was decided that it may be more prudent to oust him at the ballot.
“The party executives in his ward in Kaduna suspended him from APC in December 2015 for negative comments about your excellency. It was later extended to indefinite suspension in 2016.”
It would be recalled that Sani was handed an automatic ticket to return to the Senate by the APC.
El-Rufai’s candidate for the same post, Uba Sani, was screened out.
However, upon protest by Uba Sani and the decision to sue the screening committee of the party, his name was included, bringing about a possible contest between him and Shehu Sani for the party’s ticket.
The senator, Shehu Sani, has, however, dissociated himself from the primary election to determine who represents the senatorial district in 2019.
His words: “This is to totally disassociate myself with the reported Kangaroo APC primary election organised by Governor El-Rufai this night.
“I cannot be part of a fraud scripted by El-Rufai aimed at imposing his aide, Uba Sani. The Governor’s opposition to direct primaries is all about giving him the opportunity to impose his stooges and lackeys.
“I directed that no person or group of person should represent me as agents in the nightly conducted primaries.”
