President Muhammadu Buhari has apologised to the leadership of the National Assembly over the cancellation of the planned dinner for the lawmakers in the State House.
The president was to host the legislators at the new Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja, by 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
It was supposed to be an opportunity to discuss major national issues with the lawmakers.
That was however not to be.
Rather, the president held a closed doors meeting with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
The Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo and some presidential aides were also at the meeting.

Speaking with State House correspondents, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, Thursday night that the president offered the apology after the meeting with the Senate President and the Speaker.
He told journalists that the dinner would now hold on October 31.
It was gathered that the dinner was aborted following a security issue that arose between the legislators and security officials at the main gate of the presidential villa.
The security officials were said to have told the legislators to alight from their bus to be issued with visitor’s tags as a security routine, but they refused.
They simply turned back.
