As the tenure of local government chairmen in Benue state expires in June, 2022, State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, has fixed May 5 for election of new officials.
According to the timetable, the campaigns starts today, February 1, 2022, while primaries take place on February 9, and elections will hold on May 5, 2022.

Speaking during a stakeholders meeting organized by BSIEC to deliberate on way forward in Makurdi, Governor Samuel Ortom, assured all stakeholders, political parties and the people of Benue state a free, fair and transparent election.
The Governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Terlumun Nyitse, said he remains committed to conduct a credible election across the 23 local government areas of the state solicited for support of all to ensure its success.
Earlier, Chairman of BSIEC, Mr. Tersoo Loko, appealed to political parties to follow the new time table and to politicians to shun vices that could scuttle peaceful elections.
Meanwhile, during interactions members from various political parties and other stakeholders commended the Governor for releasing funds for the conduct of the election at a time of scarce resources and called for a transparent processes.
