‘Anti-Igbo notice to quit, a treasonable offence’

Former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mr. Udom Ekpoudom, has said the anti-Igbos threats order issued by Arewa youths is a treasonable offence punishable under the laws of the land.

Ekpoudom said on Thursday, at Ediene, Abak that those behind the quit order should be apprehended and tried for treasonable offence.

He urged the police and the DSS to exercise their constitutional mandate of protecting the lives and properties of Nigerians and ensure that those behind the threats were punished.

According to him the quit order was not only directed towards only the Igbo but the entire South East and South South and South Western parts of the country.

“It is an indirect call for division of the country which our founding fathers and nationalists suffered and died to protect,” he said.

Mr Ekpoudom  who is the chairman Tower of Ivory Schools, Abak, also  said that the sit-at-home order  by Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB)  contravened the  law.

He noted that nobody had the constitutional right to order a section of the country to sit-at-home, stressing that the order amounted to running a parallel government.
