Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku-Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II has announced the plan to start an academy for art, culture and tourism to revitalise Benin cultural heritage.
Oba Ewuare II made the plan known when he hosted some theatre groups in his palace on Tuesday.
He said works were near conclusion at the site of the academy.
The academy, he said would be called “Benin Royal Academy of Performing Art “.
He said basically, the academy would be involved in teaching and learning of various Benin cultural heritage.
According to him, the deeper proverbial and interpretations of Benin traditional heritage in rhythms and arts would also be under focus.
Besides, the academy, according to him, would serve as a learning centre to all categories of persons, especially the young one.
This, he said, was to update them on the traditional norms of the society.
While saying that prominent individuals would serve as tutors at the academy, he pointed out that the refurbishment of Oba Akenzua cultural centre to an international standard would be a source of income generation for the state.
The Oba said some well-meaning individuals in the society and other major stakeholders were joining hands to make the project a big success.
