As part of measures to prevent contact with persons infected with the Coronavirus, Benue state government has advised its citizens and all residents in the state to limit their travels.
The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Mr. Sunday Ongbabor stated this while speaking to newsmen in Makurdi.
Ongbabor who asked the people to reduce their movements for now said the world was battling with man to man spread of the virus and ‘it is moving around that is spreading it.’
The health Commissioner said the state government was doing all that was humanly possible to ensure the safety of residents adding that the people must also do their part by adhering to safety measures spelt out by government.
Ongbabor said, “We are aware of the rapid spread of Coronavirus world wide and nothing is left undone here in Benue in terms of preparedness and response to the situation.
“We are battling with man to man spread now. It is moving around that spreads it.”

Speaking on government’s plans to safeguard the lives of Internally Displaced People (IDP) at the camps, the commissioner said Benue has high concentration of people at the IDP camps who are easily vulnerable.
“We are taking care of that in collaboration with NEMA to structure our approach in the IDP camps.
“We have identified where the camps are and we have about nine camps in the state. We have assessed their needs and we are going to provide them with protective gadgets, sanitizers, thermometer for initial basic screenings.
“We are paying attention to the camp at Kwande, knowing that it is a border area.”
While noting that there is no record of suspected cases in the state, the commissioner said it was everybody’s responsibility to care for and protect themselves.
He called on all and sundry to attack the coronavirus pandemic and make it history.
