Over 1,720 Corps members posted to Benue for the 2020 Batch ‘A’ Stream l orientation exercise were subjected to critical and rigorous medical screenings to ensure that no prospective Corps member enters the camp with coronavirus.
The Benue State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Joshua-Simon disclosed this during the swearing in ceremony of the 2020 Batch ‘A’ Corps members at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Wannune.
He said they have also requested for the designated quarantine center provided by the state government in case of any outbreak of the dreaded disease.
“Right from the time of preparation for this batch, we have taken adequate measures to ensure that coronavirus is checked among corp members using medical kits. And from that moment, tap water was connected from inside the camp to the entrance gate so that incoming Corp members can wash their hands using water, soaps and hands sanitizer.
“In the camp, we have thermometer that we use in checking them and all these were supplied to us from our headquarters Abuja. We have taken adequate measures to ensure that coronavirus is not found in any of the camps across the federation.
“We subjected all the Corp members coming into Benue state particularly those coming from areas where people have been quarantined to rigorous screening.

“We are in partnership with the state Ministry of Health and Human Services and they told us they have designated a quarantine center in case of any eventuality which we have gone to see”, Shisha said.
He maintained that in view of the security challenges in the country, NYSC management had put in place enough security measures to ensure the safety of corp members on camp.
The NYSC Coordinator enjoined Corps members to be security conscious at all times and promptly report all suspicious movement or activities to camp officials. “In the spirit of national service, you must embrace one another in camp as friends, brothers and sisters irrespective of your ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds”, he advised.
Declaring the camp open, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, said that the NYSC scheme still remain an institution for nation building and national integration.
Ortom who was represented by his Deputy, Benson Abounu disclosed that the state executive council had just approved the reconstruction of the NYSC multipurpose hall to enhance their activities on camp and therefore urged Corp members to imitate good example of their predecessors who have enrolled in the scheme by contributing to the unity and development of their father land.
