Police Arrest 33 Suspects For Cultism, Armed Robbery, Recovers 7 Vehicles, Four Arms

The police in Benue state said they have arrested 23 suspected cultists and 10 armed robbers while four arms and seven stolen vehlcles have also been recovered within the month of February.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Garba Mukaddas who disclosed this in a press statement made available to newsmen in Markurdi, said some of the suspects have been charged to court while others identified as culprits in the recent cases are still at large.

The CP who paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Makurdi said the Benue State Police Command is miffed by the recent rise in cult activities in the State and has responded by deploying more Police officers around institutes of learning and other vulnerable areas in the state.

According to him, the presence of police officers on the streets of the state is also a strategy to clamp down on cultism and other social vices in the State.

He said the command has recorded huge success during the period under review including the arrest of one Mohammed Sale, Emmanuel Dalyop, Thaddeus Ibyanke, Nasiru Isa and Terzungwe Gaver all males of Gboko town.

Further interrogation and investigation led to the arrest of Mammar Dantanimu, Aliyu Ishaya and Ali Adamu who are receivers and beneficiaries of their robbery proceeds.

Items recovered from the suspects include: two Toyota Corolla(s) vehicles, one Honda Pilot Jeep vehicle, one Toyota Camry vehicle and two Honda Hennessey all suspected to be stolen vehicles, among others.

The CP assured members of the pubiic that the Command is working tirelessly to put the menace of cuitism under total control and bring to book those who engaged in cult activities.

He urged all stakeholders to avail the Police with necessary information to fight cultism in Benue State.
