Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari has called for greater action to curb the growing trend of gender based violence.
In a tweet to celebrate the International Day of the Girl-child, Mrs. Buhari said though progress had been made in the area of activism by girls to protect their gender, more needed to be done to address gender based violence.
Lamenting that the ugly trend had become very pronounced, she said all hands must be on deck to deal with the issue.
She said: “Today, I join millions of girls around the world to celebrate this year’s international day of the girl child, the theme for this year is “GirlForce: Unscripted and Unstoppable”.
“I am happy to note the progress that has been made in the area of activism by girls to protect their gender.

“I want to state that more needs to be done especially to address gender based violence which seems to be more pronounced recently. All hands must be on deck to achieve this.”

International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance day declared by the United Nations and it is celebrated on October 11.
Also known as Day of Girls and the International Day of the Girl, the day was first observed on October 11, 2012.
The day of observance is aimed at raising for more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based on their gender.
