The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said it will publish a report on the world’s 10 Most Censored Countries on September 10.
The organisation, which works to safeguard the interest and safety of journalists all over the world made this known in New York, United States, on Monday.
The report is based on CPJ’s research into the use of tactics to censor journalists, from imprisonment and repressive laws to surveillance and restrictions on internet and social media access.
According to the group, the report will cover countries where the government tightly controls the media.
It will also cover the conditions for journalists and press freedom in states like Syria, Yemen, and Somalia which are also extremely difficult, but not necessarily attributable solely to government censorship.
The last of such report to be published by the CPJ was in 2015.
Nigerian journalists have in the last four years come under severe clampdown by security agencies on the orders of the government in power.
Many reporters have been arrested, tortured and remanded in facilities across the country.
Recently, a young reporter with the independent Channels Television network was killed while covering a protest by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in Abuja.
Other journalists were beaten up, arrested and their gadgets seized by security forces in Lagos.
