The Anambra State High Court, sitting in Awka, has discharged and acquitted the accused persons who had been standing trial over the Ozubulu Catholic Church massacre.
Chiedu Great Akpunonu, a.k.a Oborocho, and Onyebuchi Mbanefo, who were suspected to be involved in the Ozubulu Catholic Church massacre, have been discharged and acquitted by Justice Fidelis Aniukwu of Anambra State High Court, Awka.
The presiding judge, Justice Aniukwu, while delivering the two and half hour judgment, said he set the defendants free as the prosecuting counsel could not prove the allegations levelled against them beyond reasonable doubts.

It would be recalled that the Ozubulu Catholic Church massacre took place on August 6, 2017 and the accused persons who lived in South Africa, were repatriated to Nigeria and arrested for the crime, which during the trial at Nnewi, some youths from Ozubulu were arrested at Nnewi High Court.
The matter later transferred from Nnewi High Court to State High Court, Awka, on security reasons.
Speaking to newsmen in Awka, the defence counsel Barrister A. A. Igwebuike, said the accused persons were set free after thorough investigations and cross examinations, which were carried out by the court, and showed that wrong people were picked and commended the presiding judge for thorough job.
