Chelsea came out on top in a very tough match away to Newcastle United by having 81 per cent possession of the ball.
It is a record for the club.
Chelsea had more possession of the ball as usual under new manager, Maurizio Sarri.
The game looked like it would end draw as Newscastle were proving stubborn in the first half of the game.
In the second half, Chelsea continued from where they stopped in the first half but this time around Olivier Giroud was introduced in place of Alvaro Morata whose stock in trade while he was on the pitch was to shoot wide.
There was more purpose to Chelsea’s attack with Giroud up front.
In the 76th minute, Marcos Alonso was brought down by Schar of Newcastle and a penalty was awarded to Chelsea.
As usual, Eden Hazard stepped up top play as he hardly misses penalties.
This one was played to the left corner.
The keeper went the right way but had almost no chance of getting to it.
Chelsea continued to dominate the game but out of nowhere, Joselu equalized for Newcastle in 81 minutes with a brilliant header.
In search of the winning goal, the Blues continued playing low crosses into the penalty area of Newcatsle.
In the 87th minute, Willain’s free-kick from the left was headed back to Alonso, who dragged a low right-footed volley across goal from the edge of the penalty area.
The ball was going wide until it hit the leg of Yedlin of Newcastle and found its way into the net.
Rafael Benitez’s side could not find their way back again and the game ended 2-1.
Chelsea now have nine points in three games by winning three straight matches.
That makes them joint top with Liverpool as Manchester City, the defending Champions were held by Wolves on Saturday.
