Tyson Fury, former unified heavyweight world champion who still holds the unofficial ‘lineal’ heavyweight title (the man who beat the man), recently announced his long-awaited comeback at a press conference.
Former unified heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury will return to the boxing ring on June 9 in Manchester after signing a multi-fight promotional deal with Frank Warren.
The 29-year-old had not fought competitively since beating Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015.
A combination of personal issues and an anti-doping case kept Fury from fighting for over two years, but now both have been resolved and he hopes to regain the heavyweight crown.
“I’m back to reclaim what is rightfully mine,” declared Fury.
“This took a very long time to make happen. ‘The Mack’ is back. It’s been a long complex drawn out situation, but it’s all behind me now.”
The former champion reiterated that he had split from trainer and uncle, Peter Fury, and will now be working with the relatively inexperienced Ben Davison.

“I needed a new spark and someone with the passion to achieve big goals. You can have the best trainer in the world but if you don’t get on or are gelling then you won’t get results,” he explained.
When asked about possible future opponents, promoter, Frank Warren revealed he expected it would take “three or four fights” for Fury to get back to the top level.
“He’s been to rock bottom,” Warren continued. “There’s nothing worse than having a mental problem.
“He’s fought his way back from there and now he’s going to move on and I believe he can win his belts back.”
