The Benue council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has called for the intervention of the United Nations in the Benue State crisis.
The crisis which is the attack of the people of the state by suspected herdsmen over the introduction of anti-grazing law has led to loss of lives and destruction of property.
The union said it had become necessary for the UN to intervene through its agencies to bring an end to the wanton waste of lives.

The request of the union is contained in a communiqué issued on Friday and signed by its Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Agber.
In the communiqué, the union urged the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to begin the process of providing succour to victims of the recent killings.
It also urged it to assist in peacefully resolving the conflict.
The union called for a media summit with relevant stakeholders where ideas would be exchanged as a way of solving the problems in the area.
While NUJ condemned the killings in the state, it implored the people to be security conscious at all times and report strange movements to law enforcement agencies.
The council also called on security agencies to intensify the search for one of its members, Mr Inalegwu Odeh.
Odeh was reported to have been missing in the last three weeks.
The union applauded Governor Samuel Ortom for the manner he had handled the crisis situation in the state.
