Akwa Ibom State government has given approval to the ongoing constitutional amendment in the country.
Governor Udom Emmanuel made the position of the state known saying that the involvement of the various stakeholders in the constitutional review process in democratic governance gave credence to the need for the amendment of the country’s statues.
Mr. Emmanuel stated this while fielding questions from Government House Correspondents at the Ibom International Airport, shortly on arrival from Abuja where he attended the Joint National Executive Council meeting with Speakers of the State Houses of Assembly across the country.
He said that inputs from the stakeholders in the polity would help fashion out a perfect amended constitution that would be acceptable to all in the administration of the country.

Mr Emmanuel made a case for the review of the federal government stance on the proposed reduction of 1billion dollars from the excess crude oil account to combat militancy and other insurgent activities in the country.
The governor explained that such fund was statutorily meant to be shared among the tiers of government to enable it address its development challenges.
He added that the state was owed over N140 billion expended on the development of federal government infrastructure and that such monies had not yet been refunded to the state.
He argued that such decision by the federal government did not go down well with the states, particularly the South South region which also has issues of militancy, kidnapping, gas flaring and other environmental degradations to contain.
